HONORS CONVOCATION
ACADEMIC AWARDS
Introduction of Academic Awards, Salutatorian & Valedictorian
Mrs. Kelly Morell, K-12 Guidance Counselor
Mrs. Allison Aldrich, 7-12 Principal
Muskegon Catholic Central students are recognized in a number of ways with our academic awards, such as by an honor cord, a pin, a certificate, a medal or a plaque. Each item is based on the student’s Crusader Academic Performance scores, better known as the CAP score. CAP scores are a value based on the following criteria: 50% is based on the Cumulative GPA, 35% is from the number and type of advanced classes taken (such as Honors, AP and Dual Enrollment), and the remaining 15% is allotted for the SAT score.
Using this criteria:
-
Gold Honor Cords are awarded to the Top 10% of students,
-
Green Honor Cords are awarded to the Top 20% of students
-
White Honor Cords are awarded to the Top 30% of students
We also recognize years of academic excellence for those who have placed in the Top 10 CAP scores each year. This academic excellence is recognized as follows:
Four year award recipients receive a plaque
Three year award recipients receive a medal
Two year award recipients receive a pin
One year award recipients receive a certificate
We recognize our National Honor Society students with NHS stoles. Members of the Bishop Francis J. Haas Chapter of the National Honor Society are selected by a Faculty Council on the basis of scholarship, leadership, character and service. Once inducted into the NHS, students are expected to provide additional service to the school, as well as maintain the high standard that led to their selection. NHS members in good standing are to wear their white NHS stoles at Commencement.
We honor the students who’ve been inducted into the National Art Honor Society. NAHS recognizes artistic talents and leadership roles for visual art students. Each year, the group has a goal of working on school or community based projects. These students are recognized with a multi-colored honor cord.
We also recognize Career Tech Center students who have been recognized with CTC honor cords for having a 3.5 or higher GPA and at least a 90% attendance record.
